The end of support for Windows 10 and what a small business owner must consider.

As usual the introduction of Windows 11 has been the talk of town recently. Some are excited about it; some don’t care. However, if you are a business owner you must consider the fact that support for Windows 10 will stop in October 2025 and, if your system is not Windows 11 ready, you won’ be able to receive any more of security updates. With that happening your computer will become much more vulnerable to security breaches and your cyber security insurance policy may be cancelled because of that.

Windows 11 requires a computer to be equipped with a specific security chip (TPM v.2.0 – a Trusted Platform Module version 2.0), designed to provide hardware-based security related functions, that your older system may not have included on their motherboards (or might have an older version of TPM, which is not compatible with Windows 11).

This will cause many companies to be forced to replace the older, not Windows 11 compatible systems. Right now, it is a good time to start planning for it. You will have 4 years to budget for it and slowly replace the older equipment without suffering one time cost and the whole transition will be less painful.

How to figure out which of your computers will require replacement? Contact your favorite IT company. There are tools available to us to easily check which systems are equipped with the proper chipset and which are not. That way you will be prepared for the upcoming changes way ahead of time and you won’t find yourself in trouble with your insurance company as well as remain protected from certain type of malware.
