10 easiest passwords to crack according to 2021 research

I and many others have been talking about the importance of proper password management in many posts. Just recently I wrote about the fact that you desperately need a password manager now. The reason behind us nagging is simple. Proper password management is the first step, the simplest and one of the most cost-effective parts of protection from cyber-attacks any individual as well as any organization should take.

Statistics show that 60% of us still re-uses their passwords. The same credentials are used to login to your bank as well as your social media sites or an online game/shopping site. It is dangerous in itself, but if you are using one the following passwords along with reusing it you are literally asking for someone to come and take your money away from you. Why? Because it takes 1 second or less to crack it. If you are as careless with your company’s credentials as your own stuff, you are putting that company at risk as well. And I don’t have to tell you how dangerous that is. Do I? I am sure you have already read that almost 60% of small businesses affected by cyber crime go out of business within 6 months after attack. It is rather a scary fact, isn’t it?

So, here is the list of top 10 most common passwords in Canada. If you are using one of those, I suggest you drop whatever you are doing right now and change this password immediately!

1. 123456
2. password
3. 123456789
4. 12345
5. 12345678
6. qwerty
7. abc123
8. tiffany
9. password1
10. testing

There are many others. Here are some examples: canada, hockey, iloveyou, 111111, sunshine, princess and some swearwords that are commonly used as well, and believe me, they are easy to guess and apply to your credentials. For the whole list of common passwords, categorized by country, I recommend for you to go and check out the recent report provided by NordPass. It is an eye opener. So, before you go and start doing anything else, please go, read the report and change any password that is included in the list.

Be safe out there and be smart. Use password manager, if you still find it difficult to generate a unique password when creating new login credentials. Don’t give cyber criminals easy access to your data and/or money, unless you have too much of it (well, if that’s the case, feel free to share with me instead. You will feel much better about it than you will when being robbed, won’t you? ;D).

If you have any questions regarding password management in general or as to what type of password manager to choose from (there are a lot of them out there and some are better than others) book a free consultation now. We are here to help!
